Palma de mallorca - summer 2022

Who would have thought Palma could be such a romantic city?

When Teresa and Antoine first contacted me about their desire to Elope in Mallorca, I thought rocky beaches, walking barefoot in the sand, gorgeous palm trees. However, their desire really was to have their photos taken around Palma de Mallorca, as the city played a big role in their love story.

When I arrived in Palma, and was greeted by the beautiful Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca, I understood that the city has charm like no other. I arrived a full day earlier - like I usually do - in order to scout locations. The list of scouted locations just kept on growing. From gorgeous tiny alleys, to a spectacular view on the Mediterranean sea.

Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca

On its opposite side, just a few hundreds meters from the Cathedral, is a little walkway where it's possible to go and take a few images. It wasn't crowded at all and gave a beautiful overview on the Catedral.

We made our way up to the main terrace of the catedral. It offered such a gorgeous view over the sunset.

Golden hour

A few steps further...

and we arrived at this gorgeous passageway named Costa de la Seu. It is located right next to the stairs leading up to the Catedral's side. The sun was setting and presented the perfect opportunity for some warm images.

Right next to Costa de la Seu, there is a small garden, walking up to Carrer del Palau Reial. The small garden looks beautiful with its arches in the back and provides a little bit of greenery for your images. The red arches were located on the same street, on the Parlament de les Illes Balears.

Nothing is as romantic then a fountain...

And that is especially true for S'Hort del Rei, small gardens with beautiful fountains located right at the bottom of the stairs from Costa de la Seu.

Time for sunset

Walking back to the Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca

Simply because the sun was setting and the light was simply amazing, creating a glittering effect on the sea, topped off with a gorgeous cotton candy sky. We didn't have too much time for this shoot, so it was imperative to stay within a small radius. This part of Palma really has a diverse offering in terms of location within a small radius. If we'd have more time, I would have loved to go down to the marina, or perhaps take a few shots at the iconic Llotja de Palma.

Not your average destination

Getting married in Palma de Mallorca

Palma is definitely not your average destination wedding location. Most weddings on Mallorca are gorgeous coastal weddings. I wanted to write this post to show the beauty of Palma. Perhaps if you are planning on getting married in the island, prepare your pre-wedding shoot around Palma! Get those aesthetic European vibes, and a different atmosphere than your wedding.

It's without a doubt that I was happily surprise with the beauty of this city. It's the perfect location for an engagement shoot or honeymoon photoshoot!

Make sure to plan your session around golden hour for best results!

And since I know you're gonna ask: yes there is quite some tourists. I was there at the end of May 2022. The streets are filled with them especially on market nights (Saturdays). But a good photographer know how to make it look less crowded. In most popular destinations, it is something that we have to deal with and it isn't always possible to get up extremely early for the sessions!
